(2) The correct formal descriptions of
133
Kis Majesty's Government and the Chinese Government
have been inserted in the preamble and in Article 24.
(3) Article 24 has been largely re-drafted to
give its intention more precise effect.
(4) The usual wording as to the English text
prevailing has been substituted in Article 25.
(5) A few minor amendments of drafting and
punctuation have been made, the intention of which
will be obvious.

I enclose a list of the amendments and also
a marked copy of the draft. A copy of this despatch
and its enclosures will be communicated by the
Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to His Majesty's
Minister at Pekin and a copy of the draft as revised
will be communicated semi-officially to the representa-
tive of the Chinese Maritime Customs in London.
